This once boxy 50’s ranch-style home underwent a complete remodel to create a casual, open space for a family of 6. A narrow, claustrophobic staircase and a dark basement-like lower level previously unnerved the younger members of the family. Now this floor contains their 4 bedrooms grouped around a media and play room with two bathrooms—it was transformed into a heaven for the kids. The relocated staircase provides a central organizing element that gives the two stories a strong, open connection while still separating the kids‘ zone from the upstairs living and entertaining area as well as the master suite. Carefully edited fenestration added significant light and framed views of treetops and the bay.
